'Cama' - Hello in Alaska's native language! I just returned from an unforgettable week-long cruise to Alaska. The spectacular views, natural wildlife, Indigenous culture, and art made my trip incredible! From glaciers and river valleys to rainforests and tundras, there was much to learn, see and experience in Alaska.
Although the city is filled with great architectural buildings, the best architecture comes from nature! Nature breaks the rules, as does the creative process. When creating new concepts, I'm always inspired by the elements of design that I discover in the places I travel to.
Some of the amazing sights included the dazzling blue colors of Mendenhall Glacier, which were incredible, morphing naturally formed structures. The row after row of glacier-garbed mountains stretched beyond the horizon, giving texture and repetition to the views. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad was a marvel of human engineering built in 1898 that still operates today. Wowed by natural and manufactured beauty, the trip was incredibly inspirational and exhilarating.
In addition to learning about the Indigenous people of Alaska, their culture, totem pole designs, and traditional murals, I also gained immense knowledge about the beautiful patterns, colors, and structures that the glaciers acquired over time. My trip to Alaska was filled with endless memorable experiences that I will surely incorporate into my work at TDG.
What are some of your favorite memories of traveling? And how does it impact the work you do? I would love to hear your thoughts and comments below!
